Manager Corporate Strategy and Business Initiatives

Corporate Strategy and Business Initiative (CSBI) Managers are responsible to identify, seek, and analyze ideas that keep General Motors open to new business opportunities. A CSBI Manager vets new business initiatives and develops or supports specific business strategies resulting in a strong, reliable revenue generating, and profitable General Motors. CSBI Managers support and often lead strategy and business initiatives from idea generation through deal negotiation, conclusion or discontinuance. The CSBI Manager will constructively review parts of the GM revenue generation value chain, strategic business plan, etc, and insure the robustness of the aforementioned. CSBI Managers will seek to improve current business models and business processes via new ideas and to push GM business model owners and subject matter experts to actively explore new opportunities and improve current business initiatives.

Position
Full-time position (located Detroit, MI – Ren Cen). Part of the Corporate Strategy and Business Initiatives Group
Reporting: Executive Director Corporate Strategy and Business Initiatives or Director Corporate Strategy and Business Initiatives

Key Strategic and Tactical Elements of the Position
Actively identify new business initiatives / conduct initial idea screening
Analyze GM value and vet new business initiatives against existing GM Strategy(s) or propose new strategy add if warranted
Derive new business initiative ideas from various sources internal GM functions, resources, external companies, competitors, etc.
Pursue new business development opportunities via external companies / partners, etc.
Develop and gain Senior Management support for overall new business initiatives and added strategy(s)
Support and/or lead business idea development from origination through deal negotiation / commercial agreement execution or idea closure / discontinuance
Work within appropriate cross regional / cross functional teams.
Obtain necessary leadership approval(s),
create project execution plans / milestones / deliverables with timing
Work closely with local or regional CSBI, Strategic Product Alliances, and NBD counterparts
Develop close working relationships with NBD Finance, Legal, Product and Powertrain Planning, Strategic Product Alliances, and GM Ventures, LCC Investment Managers, etc.
Develop a network of external business contacts New Business Development and Strategy resources
Interface as needed with GTO, Functional, Regional, PDO organizations etc., as applicable to insure coordinated approach to potential partners as well as obtain necessary approvals for all applicable agreements under development / deals under negotiation
Participate in and contribute to GM’s overall partnering strategy: partnering is viewed as an ever changing solution to problems or issues that support GM future growth without an internal solution or when hindered by other constraints, resources, lack of technology, internal expertise, or otherwise, prohibiting a GM only solution
Basic Required Skills:
Skilled at new business initiative and strategy idea generation
Capable of creating a vision for new business initiatives and integrating as part of GM core capability and business model strategies
Intuitive thinker and calculated risk taker not consumed by paralysis by data analysis
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
Broad business perspective, with ability to synthesize information and identify critical issues.
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area.
High level of oral and written communication skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate work teams and elicit work output in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
High level of computer skills (proficient with Microsoft office applications, webex, etc.).

Basic Preferred Experience/Knowledge:
Prefer prior New Business Development Experience and/or Negotiating Experience.
Strategic Planning, Product Planning, Business Planning, and/or Finance experience preferred.
Previous international experience is desirable

Education:
Bachelor degree in Business (Required)
MBA (Preferred)

Language:
Fluent in English (oral & written).

Successful candidate must:
o Possess a bias for action and decision making, capable of operating with limited direct supervision
o Be a proven self starter with an appetite to lead and no aversion to ambiguity when dealing with potential and current partners as well as GM internal process management
o Comfortable working at all levels of the company including members of senior leadership group
o Be able to prioritize heavy workload
